Sony dvd+r disks offer two-way compatibility for data and video applications: the disks are compatible with both dvd player and pc dvd drives. Users with a dvd-rom drive and mpeg2 decoding capability within their pc can play back dvd+r disks recorded by a dvd+r/+rw recorder. Also, the disks are compatible with the existing dvd-video/rom format. They use the same 8-16 modulation and rs code as dvd-rom with a bare disk, so no cartridges are required. The disks use the same recording density as dvd-rom single layer disks. |
